Is sitting killing you?
Is sitting killing you?
If you're like me, you want to be in peak health and fitness. Yet there are days that you're sitting in video calls and meetings for hours.
Wake-up call:
Something was off while skiing today. My hips were stiff and my back was tweaky. I realized I sat far too much this week while on Zoom.
Over the last year, my habit of standing for Zoom calls slipped into sitting.
Now I’m paying the price.
I’m fortunate my body gave me the wake up call. Prolonged sitting can negatively affect not only joints and muscles, but also metabolic health, including obesity, low metabolism, elevated blood sugar levels, higher cholesterol and triglycerides, and high blood pressure.
If you can relate to this epidemic of sitting too much, recommit to a healthy set of habits.
My new routine:
- Stand while working.
- Schedule walking meetings.
- Take a break from sitting every 20-60 minutes - rotate moves like stretches, jumps, squats, lunges, and walks.
